Raipur - Agrawal stated that the format of the proposal prepared by the Union Government for the amendment of Constitution in this regard even pro- poses for snatching the rights of tax imposing by municipal corporation and local bodies and giving these rights to the Council. Vehemently opposing the pro- posal on behalf of Chhattisgarh Government, Agarwal said that the new model proposed by the Union Government for GST would raise the inflation rates.
Addressing the meeting the Commercial Tax Minister said that by giving the taxing rights to a Council, the Union Government is encroaching on the Constitutional rights of state and it violates the core values of the Constitution.
The prices of general items would increase and prices of luxury items would fall down, he said. Hence the new model of GST is also been opposed by the Chhattisgarh government. Principal Secretary (Finance) Ajay Singh was also present during the meeting.
The efforts of the Union Government to shift State Government's powers of imposing commercial tax to a Council, came up for severe criticism by Amar Agarwal, Commercial Tax Minister during the high level meeting of empowered committee of State Commercial Tax Ministers constituted for the implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) at New Delhi on Wednesday.
